Shared Space with Private Patios

These homeowners had just finally finished the renovation of their new ADU (accessory dwelling unit) and now that the construction was done, they wanted to create some outdoor space for themselves, as well as for their soon to be tenants. The yard was a blank slate, which we always enjoy, except for a couple of planting areas, including a trench in the middle that was getting water run off. We were able to incorporate this space into a rain garden, as well as create some meandering paths outlined with planting beds. The yard was completed by a larger poured concrete paver patio for the main house to enjoy, a smaller patio of the same material in the back for the tenant’s private space, and a veggie bed in the middle made from Roman stone for all to share. They couldn’t wait to get out in the yard to garden!
